Low Melt Solder Castings

I’ve been playing with low melt solder and making impressions in it. I decided to try silicone molds as they can withstand the heat.

ButtonMoldTrials

The one on the left, I melted the solder on a piece of copper and press the mold into it. This mold was made from a button so it’s kind of concave and hard to get a good impression. So I decided to try pouring molten solder into the mold. That’s the test piece on the right. Makes a way better impression this way. I do like the funky edges and I think with a flatter mold I’ll be able to get a good impression and still get the funky edges. More testing to come…..

Beads Of Courage Fundraiser Event

Today I participated in the Beads Of Courage fundraiser. This is a charity for seriously ill children where beads are given to kids for different treatments they have to endure. It’s a way for the nurses to interact with the kids in a positive way. Most of the beads are bought but there are certain beads that are given out for acts of courage that are handmade by bead makers. Someone took my picture at the event today so here’s a picture of me, torching.

It was way too hot today so we all did our best to make as many beads as we could. We had 6 torches going for about 6 hours. We also had a raffle and other ways to donate. All in all, it was a successful event.

Etched Copper

I’ve been working on a couple of new things. Copper box beads for one thing. I’ve assembled several of them but still have to patina them and give them a good tumble to shine them up. In the meantime, here’s some of the copper I etched.

Meet My New Kitty Iggy

This is my new kitty that I got yesterday. He’s supposed to be a tuxedo colored kitty but his white spots seem to be all over the place. He’s 12 weeks old and is big for his age. He’s not the cutest kitty but he’s already so silly. He still needs to get acclimated to his new surroundings. He hasn’t met Marley yet, I’m hoping they will be able to meet in a few days. This is the first decent picture I got of him. He’s not that easy to take a picture of since black doesn’t photograph that well.
