I Forgot To Post This

This was something that I’ve wanted to try for a while and finally got around to it. It’s hard to set a small cab with a loop on the bottom. And one with a little flower on it made it even harder as I had to make sure the bezel didn’t get in the way. Here’s a crappy picture of the “test” I made.

BlueCab

I’d of liked the cab to sit inside the bezel a bit more but because of the flower that wasn’t possible. I’m going to try another one without a flower and see if I can get the results I want.

Pink Stone Pendant

I just finished this pendant. It was all experimental and I learned that I need to finish the back plate before soldering on other parts. It is way too hard to sand the back plate after everything is soldered on since the pearl hangs off the sides of the rectangle wires.

FinishedPiece

I do like the design so I’ll probably make another one that is similar to this one.

Disc Bead Necklace

I made these beads a while ago and finally got around to stringing them up. I wanted to make it longer but I ran out of sterling silver beads so it ended up being about 16 1/2 inches.

Components Necklace

I finally got around to threading some components onto a chain. Because I like pink, I used the pink components on this one.

Another Component

This is the fifth in my component series. It’s probably going to be my last too. I will be making more but as far as designs, I’m going to start with these and see how well they are received.

FlowerFront FlowerSide

Two different views. The challenge on these were how to rivet the wire on the back without smashing the ball or breaking the bead. I did break a few beads before figuring out how to do it.

Glass Rod Dangles

I’m back to making “components” and because I love glass so much, I thought some colorful glass rods would look great with silver end caps. I used borosilicate glass for these since they are a tad bit thicker than the glass rods I usually use.

GlassRods

These are about 2 inches long.

Third Component – Beads On A Wire

These are my third components in my modernistic talisman pendants. They will go with the resin and brass spike pieces.

DiscBeadComponent

My first idea was to use drilled rocks but they didn’t go with the modern theme. I think these will work out much better. I have another idea for another component but that’s going to have to wait until I finish knitting a sweater.

Brass Spikes

I’m still working on my modernistic talisman pendants and finished these up for them.

BrassSpikes

These will go with the three resin pieces I made before. I still have to make more components. I thought about doing something with drilled rocks but rocks aren’t modern and I didn’t like the look so I scraped that idea. I decided to use some disc beads instead for my next component in the pendant. Now I just have to make them….

More Resin Experiments

I’ve wanted to make some kind of talisman type pendant as love that ancient rustic look but the problem is, my creativity seems to have some kind of blockage as I can never achieve the look. I’ve learned to go with the flow and not fight it. I’m still going to make something that looks like a contemporary talisman pendant – if there is a thing like that. So, I started with these three pieces. I don’t know if I’m going to use them all in one pendant as I plan to add other components.

ResinDangles

I got a reflection when I took the picture on the pink piece so that thing on the right is just light bouncing off it. It’s really smooth and clear. I used Adirondack Inks. The colors are nothing like the way the colors turn out on other things, like fabric. On the left, the jello orange color is Cranberry, the middle one is Wild Plum, and the right one I used Stream. I wanted a purple one but the Eggplant color turned out an awful bluish gray. It wasn’t pretty. What I like about the Adirondack Inks is the transparency. I still want to try oil paints and chalk pastels in resin. If the chalk pastels work, I’ll be able to get a lot of different colors. Yeah!!

Experiment With Resin

I’ve been wanting to play with resin and coloring it with different mediums. So, I made a frame out of sterling silver square wire and added a few components on it, then filled the cells with resin. I’ll mention what I learned after the picture.

ResinCharm-Sanded

First, I shouldn’t have used 18 gauge square wire for the frame. It’s a little too small so my sides are short. Not that that matters so much but it makes it flat looking and has no dimension. Secondly, I over poured the resin for the middle circle so some of it oozed out, that’s why there is a haze around the ring. Next time I plan to use rectangle wire for the sides and only use color on the bottom, let that dry, then fill with clear. Also, I used acrylic paint for the bluish purple circle. It caused the resin to “plaque”, I think that’s because acrylic paint is water-based. I like the opaque-ness of it, not that keen on the plaque. The greenish color I used Adirondack Ink. It sure makes a nice transparent color. I really like how the silver design shows through. Not sure if that’s because the resin isn’t very thick or what. I guess I’ll find out on my next piece when I make another one with higher sides.
